Larry Lee Gillespie March 13, 1942 – August 27, 2018 Larry Lee Gillespie was born March 13, 1942 in Cloquet, Minnesota. He grew up in a loving family and then joined the Army to fight for his country in a strange foreign land called Vietnam. While fighting in Vietnam Larry was awarded a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart along with other awards. After the war Larry worked as a janitor for Salem-Keizer School district for 20 years. After the effects of Agent Orange he became too ill and had to retire. Larry then settled down in Salem, Oregon and came to join the Keizer Senior Center where he remained very active for many years. He enjoyed the many games of cards, Mexican Train, Bingo and lunch! After losing both of his parents the Senior Center became his family. After moving to French Prairie Nursing Home he would call the Center daily to check on his friends there. Larry passed away on August 27, 2018 and upon his passing the Senior Center was blessed with many gifts from Larry of both monetary and personal items for the gift store to sell. Larry was loved by many members there and he will be greatly missed. He is survived by his good friends Richard and Donna McCauley of Keizer. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 18th at 10:30 am at Willamette National Cemetery with military honors. |
