Sergeant Herrera was a career Marine who was the right guide for weapons platoon. That his Marines carried out their duties with steadfast courage and true professionalism speaks volumes for his leadership qualities. He was a quiet family man who through the years prepared himself and his Marines thoroughly in combat readiness to meet the challenges of combat in the Republic of Vietnam. He was a squared-away professional Marine who sacrificed his life to meet his assigned mission. His image stands in my mind as a reminder of the selflessness required to make the United States Marine Corps a Corps that never forgets its own. Semper Fidelis. With respect, horse
