Steven Leroy Hixon

Keith & Keith Funeral Home Com. Sgt. Major WA Army Nat Guard

YAKIMA - On August 1, 2006 our dearly loved Steve passed on with family by his side. His first commitment in life was to his family. He left behind his wife of 31 years, Lynette A. Hixon, whom he loved unconditionally. He always expressed his love and pride in his children. Oldest daughter Amber, 28 and husband Justin Pittmon. His son Eric Hixon, 26 and wife Molly, and the miracle baby Stacy Hixon, 19. He also was so grateful to become a loving grandpa to Ashton and Alex Hixon, whom he cherished.

He also had a passion for his career and loved the National Guard. His dedication was shown throughout many years of service to his country. He served in the US Navy from 1971 to 1975 during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1978 Steve enlisted with the WA Army National Guard and dedicated 28 years of service, graduating from the Sergeant Major Academy on June 30, 2006 in El Paso, TX. He worked for M.A.T.E.S at the Training Center for 28 years as a heavy equipment mechanic/supervisor.

Steve also loved the outdoors. This included hunting, fishing, golfing, boating and jeepin. The main reason he loved these activities was because he got to spend time with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Lynette A. Hixon of Yakima; children, Amber and husband Justin Pittmon, of San Antonio, TX, Eric and wife Molly Hixon of Birch Bay, Washington, and Stacy Hixon of Yakima; two grandsons, Ashton and Alex Hixon; his father, David Leroy Hixon and wife Janice, of Union Gap; mother Joy Skahan, of Yakima; brothers, David and Mark Hixon, of Yakima; sisters and brothers-in-law; Bobbie and Jerry Lee, and Jackie and Bob Henretig, all of Yakima and grandmother, Belle Clark, of Yakima. Steve was preceded in death by grandparents, Roy Lee Clark and Lloyd and Grace Hixon.

The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Memorial Hospital (especially Melissa and Steve) for the outstanding job they did in caring for Steve and his family. Their kindness helped the family through a difficult time. And to Dr. Preacher who gave us the personal support that we need at this time, thank you. And a special thanks to Randy Scheibner.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, August 4, 2006 at West Hill Memorial Park. Visitations for family and friends will be held this evening, Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Keith and Keith Funeral Home on Yakima Avenue.

Mr. Hixon was born and raised in Yakima and served in the Navy from 1971 to 1975 and then served with the National Guard from 1978 to 2006. He worked at the Yakima Training Center from 1978 to present.
