Freddy Allan Perkins 1948-2008

Freddy Allan “Fred” Perkins, 60, of Cottage Grove died Dec. 27, 2008 from cancer.
He was born April 22, 1948 in Westwood, Calif. to James and Martha (White) Perkins.
He grew up and attended school in Cottage Grove, graduating with the high school class of 1967. He attended Lane Community College, earning an associate degree in electronics.
He was with the U.S. Marines, serving in Vietnam, and was a proud patriot and hero.
Fred married Sandra Olson on June 3, 1969 in Cottage Grove.
Mr. Perkins worked in electrical wholesale for many years.
Foremost in his life, he was a dedicated husband and father. He loved the outdoors, the Oregon coast, Cedar Creek, hunting, fishing and traveling. He officiated at many high school and Pac-10 football games.
He was a member of the VFW, the Lane County Football Officials Assn., and the Elks Lodge. He was also active in the Cottage Grove Faith Center, serving as an usher and past board member.
Fred is survived by his wife, Sandra, his mother, Lorene Perkins, two sons, David Perkins and Tom Perkins, all of Cottage Grove, three sisters, Sue Allen of Cottage Grove, Lenora Stewart of Crooked River, Oregon and Glenda Klansnic of Cottage Grove, two grandchildren, Dylan and Morgan Alice, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held Jan. 3 at Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove. A celebration of life was held Jan. 4 at the Cottage Grove High School Cafetorium.
The Class of ‘67 has established a fund with the Bank of America to assist the widow of Fred Perkins, the “Sandra Perkins Assistance fund.”
